I never thought of a bird feeder to keep birds away from pests. I figured that would just attract more birds. I have problems only with birds only with one plant, my wineberries. A few years ago I had as many as I wanted. Then one species of bird found them and now I have trouble getting the berries. I tried netting last year to some effect but I wasn't careful enough and it is a bother. I think I am going to try doing a better job to make the netting complete.

I moved in my house about 10 months ago, and I've spent quite a bit of money and sweet equity fixing up the exterior, and re-landscaping my yard. Now that I've got it just the way I want it, I'm starting to have serious problems with moles in my back yard. I don't think we have Gophers here in the Jacksonville Florida area, but the moles can be ruthless.
I've tried using the spike traps, and I've tried using grub killers, but the best thing I've found that keeps them away is the sonic spikes that I bought at Lowes. It took a few weeks, but the activity in the areas that I put them eventually stopped. Now it's just a matter of keeping my beds cleaned out so the solar panels on the spikes can get sun light.

We also have problems with larger animals such as deer, ground hogs and bear. The deer checks the growth of our crop and chooses to wait until the corn is fully grown and then picks the best ears to eat. The ground hog ( around 25 lbs or more) has now gotten hungry and eating our early peas, but the worst of all we have black bear that will come and visit our bird feeders and destroys the feeders and eats all the bird food. Bugs are the least of our problem.
